10 THINGS YOU NEED FOR THE BABY’S FIRST YEAR

BABY’S FIRST YEAR ESSENTIALS

Hello Everyone! As you know I have 4 boys, so I have been wanting to write this post for over some time, hopefully you will enjoy this one as much as I do.

When you are pregnant or just had a baby you will get so many lists or advice on what to get but normally the “lists” will have many items that you will not need so I am confident on this top 10 items you will definitely need for the baby’s first year! I do recommend buying this items before baby is due but easily you can get them over the march.

1-BABY BASSINET

You can use a pack and play as a bassinet but I do like the ones you can put beside your beds, I actually had an acrylic one (like the ones from the hospital) as I liked to see the baby while I was laying down. whether you want to sleep with the baby until he goes to college or you plan on the baby sleeping on his own room I recommend at least a couple of weeks that you sleep the baby near you even more if you had a c-section.

2- SWADDLER BLANKETS

you can buy blankets and make your own or you can buy the ones already made, but the firsts weeks it’s really important to hold the baby’s arms as the rapid movement will cause him to cry or get scared. Many people do not believe on the swadlers but I do my 4 babies slept way better when they were snugly tight on their swaddlers.

Pros and cons on a blanket vs the already made swaddlers

the ones they sell already made are typically from a thick fabric so if baby is born on summer it may be to thick but when the baby is asleep and he went number 2 (believe me it happens more than you think) and you do not want to wake him up you can just open the bottom part and change the diaper and many times you can finish VICTORIOUS without waking up the baby.

the ones you make if you practice enough you will get used to do them and you can still use them if the baby is small or big and you will fins cute patterns and fabrics you can use them after that (Lorenzo still sleeps with his blanket from when he was born)

3- A CRIB

The babies need their own space for comfort and safety reasons and there is no better place than a crib. You can buy as expensive as you want. I recommend buying a neutral color so you can use the same crib with all your kids (if you plan on having more)

4. THE BABY K’TAAN

This product ROCKS! I only used it with Lorenzo as it i didn’t exist with my other kids but I really could have another baby just to use this product! i bought first the Moby Wrap and hated it! it’s so complicated to wrap it and so thick then I discovered this one and I could eat, clean, walk, do whatever you want with the baby comfortably in there. It’s so delicious to have the baby asleep or awake on your belly and they usually love it to be so close to you.

5. 1 REGULAR BOTTLE

whether you plan on breast-feeding or bottle do not buy the whole set until you know if your baby is coliqui, or has reflux or something else. When I first was pregnant with Emiliano I had the great idea to get the whole set of the Dr Browns and they are great don’t get me wrong but if your baby has colic if he does not its a pain to clean them up, so I ended up throwing them all and buying AVENT ones. I really like Avent or Tommee Teeppees.

6. A SET OF ONESIES

The first year of a baby could literally live on onesies especially if its summer, most nights my kids just slept in the onesis and the blanket that way I could easily and fastly change them in the middle of the night.

7. A STROLLER

The best stroller you can get is a scissor stroller that has a canopy and reclines, I have the Mclaren one and really is the best. I know when the baby is little you need to get a travel system ( only work for the first year) and you can and I had one as well but if you can’t afford but one invest on the scissor stroller.

8- A BABY MONITOR

This will help you sleep better at night knowing you can hear your baby if something happens, there are million of types and brands and they can run from the normal ones from $19 to very fancy monitor ones, I have tried the camera  ones and personally didn’t like them so just buy one you like. You will use this for more than the first year.

9. A WHITE NOISE MACHINE WITH LIGHT

This is one of my must haves. First the baby is used to noise as it resembles the belly noise they are used to. Also if you have more kids this will reduce the noise from the siblings outside. For some reason my 4 boys slept better when I left a night-light. This one projects graphics to the ceiling or wall.

10. BATHTUB WITH A STAND

This is not a must but it really helped me as you don’t have to bend over to watch the baby. This bath tub it is completely on your  level so it’s easier.
